Same Sex Marriage

The threat of same sex marriage posted by The Other Colbert Report
I felt that the reasoning behind this post was all completely personal. The fact that the author gives reasoning to a marriage sticking to rituals of it being "a man and a woman" doesnt say much. Why though? Because this is what we are used to seeing in society that when something all of a sudden becomes out of norm we all freak out? Why cant same sex marriage be considered a "sacred ceremony?" They would only bind in matramony because they are in love just like everyone else who gets married. This author also believes that a child needs a mother and a father to be raised correctly. What about single parents or children who have no father or have no mother? Its all about HOW you raise your child not WHO raises the child. And about procreating, how do we think adopted kids feel when they get to go to a good home and be provided with love, and shelter, and material items instead of being in a shelter? Just because same sex marriages cannot have children on their own, they can open up their homes to a child in need which could possibly save them! What is really the harm in same sex marriage? Its all an opinion but everyone in the world deserves to be happy, get married, and have children if they shall desire those things. No one should be denied to make vows together just because its not normal.

The never ending contraversy of Abortion

I chose to create an editorial for Contemporary America's post "Abortion: A Hot Topic". Abortion is such a huge topic in the United States and it always has been and will be well into the future. I feel for her and why she chose to be pro-life. I dont believe in killing an unborn child but on the other hand I feel for those who decide abortion for the right reasons. Being young and "unready" to have a child is not a reason to have an abortion. But what about those who were raped and wound up pregnant? Can you imagine the trama of the mother as she has the constant memories of being raped while she goes through the journey of being pregnant? What would she tell everyone is she was forced to keep the baby when people started asking questions? What would she tell the baby when the child is old enough to wonder where their father is? A lot of the crimes and psychological cases in this world start from terrible childhoods. If a mother has a child who could care less about it but is forced to have it, how would this be for the child? We have to think about the entire picture before we abolish this rule entirely. While I believe killing a child is terrible, I could never outlaw abortion.

Social Security-A thing of the past?

If you’re like many Americans, you probably look at your paycheck for a couple of reasons.  One is of course to see how much you got paid.  Secondly, you probably take a look at how much you paid in taxes.  Soon after you get over the disappointment of how much you paid in taxes, you probably go along with your day and get over it.  Have you ever sat down and thought about how much social security taxes get taken out of each and every paycheck and wondered if you will even get the money back that the government is collecting?  The unfortunate truth about social security benefits will eventually be gone and the amount of money that was originally stored for individuals to rely on when they become of retirement age will become a thing of the past.  This is due to baby boomers born in the 1950s.  The shrinkage in the social security benefit fund is not just a prediction it is a pure fact.  For example, baby boomers that were born in the 1950s have already started to reach retirement around the year of 2008, therefore already diving into the social security fund; this will continue to happen when we see each year a new cycle of baby boomers retiring.  In addition to this the baby boomers have not had enough children to replace themselves and the number of taxpayers will dwindle.  This is a key reason why the surplus will eventually face a deficit – you need taxpayers after all to generate your social security funds.

Currently in the United States, this issue is brought up among top administration officials, but ultimately the change will lie in the government’s hands.   The government needs to step up instead of putting their hands in the cookie jar elsewhere and while trying to figure out and solve other nations problems, issues on home turf are rising at an unstoppable rate.

Winning Undecided Voters

In the Washington Monthly blog titled “George W. Bush Haunts Mitt Romney”, Ezra Klein’s audience is clearly intended for right wing and conservative individuals.  In the blog, Klein points out that presidential nominee Mitt Romney is still coping with the aftermath of former President George W. Bush’s presidency.  Klein also is quick to point out that Romney’s biggest issue is not President Barack Obama, but the issue of trying to win voters who have skepticism about having another Republican president in office such as former George W. Bush.  Klein points out in his blog that after Tuesday’s Presidential debate Mitt Romney was given a chance to finally win the votes of some of the skeptical voters that have been undecided about voting for another republican president, but Klein is quick to point out that Mitt Romney has failed to do so.  Ezra Klein does provide some statistical analysis on both President Obama and Mitt Romney, and gives credible facts.  For example, Ezra Klein points out that Romney offered nothing that former President Bush wouldn’t have proposed in 2000.  Klein also points out that current United States economy now has deficits rather than a balanced budget.  I personally believe and agree with Ezra Klein’s blog.  For example, I believe that many things happened on former President George W. Bush’s watch, such as the fail of major corporations and the economic downfall spiral of the economy, not to mention the millions of tax dollars spent on the war in the Middle East.  Finally, I believe that in order to swing those undecided voters, Mitt Romney will indeed have to do his best to convince those who are skeptical on having a repeat presidency such as the one led by former George W. Bush.

President Obama: Hide or Seek?

In the editorial found in the Washington Post, Editor Dana Milbank discusses a strong opinion in an article that reads “Obama pays the price for ducking the questions”.  In this editorial, the author’s audience is obviously for the Republicans and towards the side of potential voters for presidential nominee Mitt Romney.  Dana Milbank points out in his article that President Obama has evaded questions from the media and the public.  Milbank also points out that President Obama has not held nearly as many news conferences as past Presidents in the United States. Milbank backs his opinion with statistics from a Towson University political scientist Martha Kumar, who has kept tallies of all media appearances made by Obama and past U.S presidents. Milbank also recognizes that President Obama does not opt to complete new conferences, but instead he makes appearances on soft-focus interviews such as late-night comedy shows. Milbank shares his opinions on how poorly President Obama did on the recent debate and points out how this is not the first time that Democrats have done poorly on past debates. As my personal opinion to this article, I would have to partially agree with Editor Milbank, but only on the idea that President Obama could have done better on his debate with Presidential nominee Mitt Romney. I believe that President Obama did not show his usual strong articulate and precise way of answering questions and lacked in the strength of his responses to questions posed by Mitt Romney. There is a side that I do not agree with on Editor Milbank’s article.  I believe that a President does not have to hold multiple news conferences in order to be judged as a great leader and President.  What matters the most to me is a President who can handle whatever situation he is faced with, and not how many news conferences he holds or how many questions he answers, after all he is the Commander and Chief of the United States.

Obama vs. Romney, the race continues....

On Saturday September 21, 2012 The New York Times published an article about President Obama responding to recent comments made by running presidential opponent Mitt Romney. Obama stated that "his presidency had always been about mobilizing outside voices to alter the direction of the country." Romney recently stated that he would "get the job done from the inside." Obama asked his audience what kind of inside job Romney is talking about and that we dont want it. Obama also spoke about one of the campaign's largest topics of Medicare. Obama stated that Romney spoke of raising the cost of medical care and that it would only benefit the insurance companies and not the wealthy. Obama stated that Romney's plan would encourage approximately 40% of doctors to leave the Medicare program, resulting in the raised costs for the elderly. Romney's plan was to also increase the cost of social security taxes in order to decrease the cost of taxes for the wealthy. This statement is interesting finding that most of Romney's supporters come from the wealthy. I feel this article would give a good plan for someone who is voting and debating on which candidate to choose. It also gives a good picture of how each candidate responds to the attacks made against them and how they attempt to turn the statements from negative to positive.
